3D Assembly Videos for Carports and Aluminum Patio Cover Systems
From Outdated PDF Instructions to Modern Assembly Videos
Two 3D assembly videos were produced for Schweng to showcase their aluminum patio cover systems. The 3D animations demonstrate the assembly of a carport and an aluminum patio cover step by step, helping customers complete the installation more easily. Particular emphasis was placed on a clean, modern visual style that matches the company's website while keeping the focus entirely on the product and each individual assembly step.
The Challenge: Replacing Text-Heavy Assembly Instructions
Previously, Schweng's assembly instructions were available only as PDF documents. These manuals contained extensive written explanations along with older illustrations exported from the CAD system. As a result, it was not always easy for customers to quickly understand the individual assembly steps or follow the correct installation sequence.
The goal of the project was therefore to present the entire assembly process in a modern and easy-to-understand format. Instead of static images and lengthy text sections, engaging 3D assembly videos were created to visualize every installation step in a clear and intuitive way.
Original situation: Text-heavy PDF assembly instructions
Solution: A 3D Assembly Video for an Aluminum Carport
To make the assembly process easier for customers to understand, a detailed 3D assembly video was created for an aluminum carport.
Every installation step is visualized in the correct sequence, from positioning the support posts and assembling the structural framework to installing the roof panels.
Thanks to the three-dimensional visualization, component relationships and installation positions are much easier to understand than in a traditional PDF manual.
The animation deliberately focuses on the product itself and each individual assembly step.
The result is a modern assembly guide that leads customers through the complete carport installation step by step while reflecting the premium appearance of the Schweng brand.

From CAD Data to a 3D Assembly Video
As the foundation of the project, Schweng provided the original CAD data of the carport construction. The models were first prepared and optimized for use in the 3D animation software. Individual components were organized, materials were refined, and the geometry was optimized for the animation process.
Using the CAD data made it possible to recreate the complete construction with maximum accuracy and animate the entire assembly process step by step. As a result, the visualization precisely reflects the real product, with every component shown in its actual shape and installation position.
After the technical preparation, the individual assembly steps were carefully planned and visualized in a clear and logical sequence. The finished 3D assembly video provides an easy-to-follow guide to the complete carport installation, allowing even complex assembly procedures to be understood quickly and intuitively.

The Storyboard as the Foundation of the 3D Animation
Before the animation production began, a detailed illustrated storyboard was created. It defined every assembly step and established the visual concept of the final video. This allowed the complete workflow to be reviewed in advance and any adjustments to be incorporated before production started.
The storyboard served as the visual blueprint for the animation, showing which components would be installed in each step and from which camera angle every procedure would be presented. This created a clear production framework and ensured a consistent narrative throughout the entire 3D assembly video.

Following the successful carport project, a second 3D assembly video was produced for an aluminum patio cover system.
Thanks to the similar design principles, many existing project assets could be reused and adapted.
In addition to materials and textures, animation sequences such as drilling holes and fastening components with screws were also reused.
This eliminated the need to recreate every animation from scratch, making the production process significantly more efficient.
Reusing existing animation assets reduced production time while ensuring a consistent visual style across multiple 3D assembly videos.

Why Use 3D Assembly Videos for Patio Cover Systems?
Patio cover systems such as aluminum patio covers and carports consist of numerous individual components and assembly steps. Traditional PDF manuals with technical drawings and lengthy text can quickly become difficult to follow.
3D assembly videos visualize the complete installation process step by step, making even complex assembly procedures easy to understand. Components, positions, and assembly sequences are presented in three dimensions, allowing customers to understand the installation process much faster.
For manufacturers, 3D assembly videos are the perfect complement to conventional assembly instructions. They support customers throughout the installation process, reduce support requests, and present products in a modern, professional, and engaging way.

The following images show selected scenes from the 3D assembly videos produced for Schweng. The project included both an aluminum carport and an aluminum patio cover system. Thanks to the realistic visualization of every component and assembly step, the videos provide clear and easy-to-follow assembly instructions that guide customers through the complete installation process. The animations were intentionally designed with a clean, minimalist visual style to keep the focus entirely on the product and the assembly process.

Contact Us TodayFAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About 3D Assembly Videos for Carports and Patio Cover Systems
Why are 3D assembly videos particularly effective for carports and patio cover systems?
Carports and patio cover systems consist of numerous profiles, connectors, and fastening points. A 3D assembly video presents every installation step in the correct sequence and from the best possible viewing angle, allowing customers to understand the assembly process much faster than with text-based instructions alone.
Can existing CAD data be used to create a 3D assembly video?
Yes. In many projects, manufacturers already provide CAD models of their products. These models can be optimized for animation and used as the basis for creating highly accurate 3D assembly videos. This not only ensures a realistic representation of the product but also reduces production time.
Can 3D assembly videos replace existing PDF assembly instructions?
Not necessarily. In most cases, 3D assembly videos complement existing PDF manuals rather than replace them. While technical specifications and detailed documentation remain in the written instructions, the video clearly visualizes the installation process and makes every assembly step easier to understand.
Can additional product variants be created from an existing 3D assembly video?
Yes. Product families with similar designs often allow existing materials, textures, CAD models, and animation sequences to be reused. This makes it possible to produce additional assembly videos for related products more quickly and cost-effectively.
What are the benefits of 3D assembly videos for manufacturers of aluminum patio cover systems?
Professional 3D assembly videos help customers assemble products correctly, reduce support requests, and present products in a modern and professional way. They also enhance traditional assembly documentation and improve the overall customer experience.
